The
Europe/Middle East Region stretches from above the Artic Circle in
the north to the back side of the Sahara Desert and the boarders
of Mongolia in the south, from the Straits of Gibraltar in the
west to the Bering Sea and borders of Alaska in the east. It
contains 75 nations and territories – 46 European countries and
territories including the former communist block of Russia and
Eastern Europe, 19 Middle Eastern states, the five nations of
Africa’s northern tier, and five nations in south central Asia .
More than 1.2 billion people or 20.2% of the world’s population
live in this part of the world. The diversity of the region makes
it an interesting and challenging collage of varied cultures,
languages, religions, economic situations, and political views.
The
Europe/Middle East Region not only has the largest land area of
any of the six regions, but also the largest number of
missionaries and Associates In Missions in the United Pentecostal
Church International - 103 missionaries and over 80 Associates In
Missions. These hard-working missionaries, along with our national
pastors and believers, are responsible for the great revival and
the opening of 35 countries in this part of the world for the
United Pentecostal Church International in the past 14 years!
Recently, we
have learned that there are over 2,500 baptized believers in the
country of Iraq. An Operation Iraqi Open Door team has been formed to take
humanitarian aid, medical supplies, Bibles and other assistance to
believers in Iraq.
