Women’s
Emphasis in Slovakia
April 2007
Under the
capable leadership of Sister Jean Tir, missionary to
Slovakia, the women of Slovakia hold 10 ladies’ meetings per
year and approximately 25-30 Bible studies. They extend
invitations though personal contact and through e-mail.
Their February meeting was attended by several ladies whom
the Tirs first met through the New Life Center Language
School some years ago. These women have continued to show
interest in these meetings, which provide opportunity for
both Bible study and personal friendships. Professional
women and homemakers, alike, find emphasis on their
spiritual growth, as provided during these meetings, to be
rewarding.

Last July’s
ladies meeting was held during the Family Camp in Liptovsky
Mikulas, Slovakia. This meeting was attended by 35 women,
who represented Slovakia, Serbia, the Czech Republic, and
the United States.
In May, Sis. Tir will be the speaker during the Annual
Ladies’ Conference held in Serbia. Approximately 100-130
women from several local churches are expected to attend
this meeting, the theme of which will be “Victorious
Living.”
Sis. Tir finds that some parts of Slovakia are more
receptive to the idea of women’s ministries, and in these
areas she has been welcomed to teach Bible studies and
direct ladies’ meetings. In the more rural areas, women are
sometimes restricted to ministries dealing with children and
music. All of these ministries, however, are vital to
developing this new church field.
The visionary leadership of Missionary and Sister Tir is
making an impact on the country of Slovakia. They understand
the importance of placing emphasis where Jesus did in His
ministry: seeking to change lives through Biblical teaching
and example.
